Strengthening Moldovan-Swedish partnership discussed by Prime Minister and Sweden’s Ambassador
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan had a meeting today with Ambassador of Sweden to the Republic of Moldova Petra Lärke. The officials discussed strengthening the Moldovan-Swedish partnership, the support provided for the modernization of the Republic of Moldova and cooperation in the field of security.
The official thanked Sweden for the consistent support to the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing that Sweden is one of the most important bilateral donors and a long-term development partner, through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
Tofan highlighted the Republic of Moldova’s interest in expanding economic and trade relations with Sweden, focusing on investment opportunities in the telecommunications and energy sectors.
An important topic of the dialogue concerned the energy situation, including in the context of the approaching 2026–2027 cold season. In 2025, Sweden provided substantial support of around 9 million euros to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, which was used to offer compensation to vulnerable households.
The parties agreed to continue projects that contribute to increasing resilience and modernizing the Republic of Moldova, strengthening cooperation in the security, as well as advancing the country’s European integration path.
