Energocom: Electricity shortage during peak hours; consumers urged to save energy
The power system of the Republic of Moldova will once again face an electricity deficit this evening during the maximum consumption interval from 18:00 to 21:00, Energocom company reports.
According to the company, the authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure the country's power supply and, if needed, will use emergency energy mechanisms to maintain system stability.
“Voluntary consumption reduction by each consumer remains the most effective tool available even this evening,” Energocom emphasizes.
The situation is being constantly monitored, Energocom assures.
“The peak is expected between 19:00 and 20:00, when evening household consumption—lighting, air conditioning, household appliances—overlaps with the decline in photovoltaic production. For consumers, this means that any reduction applied precisely during this interval has the greatest effect on the system’s balance,” the Energocom statement reads.
According to Energocom, the deficit is generated by regional conditions created by the heat wave. Electricity demand has increased significantly across the entire region, while production is affected by the very low flow of the Danube, which limits the ability of some power plants to operate at normal parameters, as water is indispensable for cooling installations.
Given that the Republic of Moldova is part of the regional energy market and depends on imports, any deficit that arises in neighboring states directly affects the volumes of electricity that can be purchased by the country.
Energocom specifies that this is a seasonal and regional phenomenon, managed through the operator’s usual mechanisms, including through additional electricity purchases from the market and, if necessary, by using emergency energy, with no malfunction or emergency situation in the national power system.
