Moldovan PM at Diaspora Congress says leadership's goal to build in Moldova model existing in EU
Our goal is to build in Moldova the model existing in the European Union, as the essence is to build Europe at home. Prime Minister Dorin Recean today made statements to this effect at the Diaspora Congress held in Chisinau today.
The PM emphasized the important contribution of the Diaspora to the country’s development and urged Diaspora representatives to return home and work in Moldova.
"Anyone who wants and can help us, we have special programmes dedicated to professionals abroad. I have a problem with the word Diaspora, I always say that they are our citizens, temporarily abroad, where they gain experience and earn money, so I ask you to share this experience back home. We are waiting for you to come home and work for the government, agencies, private businesses, especially in this context of European integration,” said Dorin Recean.
The prime minister highlighted the efforts on the European integration path, noting the important role of professionals in key domains and their experience.
"There are many tasks now, as we have to adopt many laws, regulations and it is important to care for the necessary timeframe and investments needed for both the public and private sector, in order to have a competitive economy and a united, consolidated society," the PM stressed.
At the same time, Dorin Recean referred to the programmes implemented by the authorities to support economic development and attract investments. According to the official, the government has several assistance and support programmes for entrepreneurship, with some specifically designed for citizens temporarily settled abroad.
"Now in Moldova, it is the best time to invest in IT, pharmaceutical, electronics, energy, logistics chain’s development, and here I mean the goal of Ukraine’s recovery, as well as the increase in levels of exports from Moldova to the large European market,” added Dorin Recean.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of continuing reforms and preparing the country for the assimilation of pre-accession funds. "We benefit from resources worth 1.9 billion euros from the European Union for the period 2025-2027, and starting from 2028, we will already qualify for pre-accession funds, which will be more substantial and larger. We are preparing for a faster assimilation of these funds. President Sandu, when thinking about the 'European Village' Program, analyzed the experience of Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and through the exercises we have now with the 'European Village', we are doing namely this – we prepare the public administration, entrepreneurs, people, communities, the business environment for the quick assimilation of European funds, and then everyone, including those in the Diaspora, will be able to access these European funds for investments in Moldova,” said Dorin Recean.
The most important event of the year dedicated to the diaspora, the Diaspora Congress, is at its 11th edition and is taking place in Chisinau on August 15. The event is organized by the Diaspora Relations Bureau, with the support of GIZ Moldova, UNDP Moldova and the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency.
