Moldovan Infrastructure Ministry, EU Delegation in Moldova launch information campaign for passengers on their Rights in European Union

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR), in collaboration with the European Union Delegation in Moldova, has launched an information campaign dedicated to passengers’ rights in EU’s air transport.

The aim of the campaign is to familiarize travelers with their rights to compensation and assistance in cases of delays, cancellations or denied boarding. These rights apply regardless of the airline, as long as the flight departs from an EU country or lands in the EU with a European airline.

According to MIDR, passengers’ rights apply in the following situations: flights conducted within the EU, regardless of the airline; flights landing at an EU airport coming from outside the Union, operated by EU companies; flights departing from EU airports to third countries, regardless of the operator; in cases where compensation or alternative services have not already been provided under the legislation of a non-EU country.

“Passengers’ rights entail more things. If the flight is delayed by more than 2 hours, passengers are entitled to assistance, reimbursement or a return flight, depending on the duration of the delay and the distance of the route; if the delay at the final destination exceeds 3 hours, passengers may claim compensation, except for cases of extraordinary circumstances, proven by the airline; airlines must provide a written document including rules on compensation and assistance, available at check-in and online,” the cited source said.

The campaign provides information through guides and frequently asked questions regarding passengers’ assistance in flight disruption situations; the rights of passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility; EU regulations on passengers’ rights and the liability of air operators.

The Ministry encourages all passengers to know and demand their rights, in order to ensure safe and confident air travel in Europe. For further details and official guides, passengers can access the official platform of the campaign: https://actpermisiv.gov.md/#/home.
