Moldova's National Health Insurance Company provides clarifications on payment of mandatory health insurance premium for Diaspora citizens

The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) draws attention to the increase in the number of cases of online misinformation regarding the fixed-sum payment of mandatory health insurance premium, especially for Diaspora citizens.

CNAM clarifies that the status of insured person is given by falling into one of the following categories: employed persons, for whom the 9-per cent premium is automatically deducted from their salary; individuals insured by the government, including children, full-time students, pregnant women, pensioners, unemployed persons, people with disabilities and war veterans; individuals who insure themselves, such as agricultural landowners, individual entrepreneurs, patent holders, lawyers, notaries, bailiffs and mediators.

According to CNAM, Moldovan citizens who are abroad for more than 183 days  per year are not required to pay the premium, except for those conducting independent activities in the country or holding active patents or licenses in the professions mentioned.

Diaspora people who do not fall into these categories may choose to insure themselves by paying the premium as per the law.

CNAM emphasizes that the amount displayed in the governmental MPay service for people from abroad for more than half a year is not an obligation, but the value they can pay, if they opt to insure themselves.

For additional information and clarifications, citizens can visit http://cnam.md or call the CNAM Info Service at 0 800 99999.
