Moldovan parliament to convene at special session on August 17 to appoint new Constitutional Court judges

The parliament on August 17 will convene at a special session for the ceremony of the of the new Constitutional Court judges. The plenary meeting will start at 11:00.

Five mandates of constitutional judge expire on August 16, and the positions will be filled by the judges recently appointed by the parliament, government and the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM): Liuba Sova, Nicolae Rosca, Sergiu Litvinenco, Domnica Manole and Ion Malanciuc.

According to the legislation, the new judges take their oath before the parliament, the president of Moldova and the CSM and their mandate begins immediately after the oath-taking.

The parliament's regulations see that the legislature can convene at extraordinary or special sessions outside of the regular ones, at a request by the president of Moldova, the parliament speaker or one-third of the MPs. On this period, the parliament maintains its representation, control and internal organization duties, but its legislative activity is limited.
