Moldovan parliament's foreign policy commission endorses candidacies of four new ambassadors

The parliament’s foreign policy commission has approved the advisory opinions on the candidacies of four ambassadors of Moldova to Belgium, Greece, Lithuania and Qatar.

Valeriu Mija is to be appointed ambassador of Moldova to the Kingdom of Belgium, Alexandru Codreanu - to Greece, Angelica Munteanu - to Lithuania and  Vitalie Rusu will take up the position of ambassador to the State of Qatar.

Since 2024, Valeriu Mija has served as state secretary at the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE). Previously, he held several positions at Defence Ministry, including the one of state secretary. He also served as a security adviser in OSCE missions in more countries. Valeriu Mija holds a PhD in political science and is an associate professor.

Alexandru Codreanu is a career diplomat with more than 30 years of experience at the MAE, where he currently heads the General Directorate for Cooperation with the European Union. During his career, he served as ambassador of Moldova to the Czech Republic and to the Holy See, as well as to Hungary, while also being concurrently accredited to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia.

Angelica Munteanu has more than 18 years of experience in the diplomatic service. She currently serves as minister-counsellor at the Mission of Moldova to the European Union, where she leads the political team responsible for the negotiations on the country's accession to the EU. Previously, she worked at the MAE’s European Integration Directorate, as well as at the embassies of Moldova in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Vitalie Rusu has been in the diplomatic service for 29 years. He currently serves as Ambassador-at-Large at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, responsible for the Transnistrian conflict settlement file and memory policies. Previously, he was ambassador of Moldova to the Czech Republic, with concurrent accreditation to the Holy See, and worked at the country's Permanent Missions to the OSCE and the United Nations Office in Vienna.

According to the Law on the Diplomatic Service, proposals for the appointment of ambassadors are submitted to the government by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, following consultation with the parliament’s foreign affairs commission. Subsequently, ambassadors are appointed by the president of Moldova.
