Moldovan PM meets European Commissioner for Financial Services

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has met Maria Luís Albuquerque, the European Commissioner for Financial Services and the Savings Investments Union. The officials discussed the deepening of economic and financial cooperation between Moldova and the European Union, in the context of the European integration process and reforms aimed at modernizing the national economy.

PM Dorin Recean emphasized the importance of attracting long-term investments and strengthening the financial market as an essential pillar for the sustainable development of the country. "Moldova is undergoing an intense process of transformation. Justice reform is the foundation of all other reforms and the rule of law is what encourages people to invest," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

European Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque reiterated the full support of European institutions for the development of a modern, competitive and resilient financial sector of Moldova. She also appreciated the sustained efforts of the authorities to improve the citizens' standard of living.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed the need to recalibrate risks’ management mechanisms in the financial sector, develop investment tools and stimulate public participation in the capital market.

The European Commissioner's visit takes place in the context of the international conference titled, Finance and Economic Growth: Lessons for the European Path of Moldova”, organized by the National Bank of Moldova.

The event brings together representatives of national and European authorities, international financial institutions and economic experts, in order to create a platform for strategic dialogue on the financial and economic priorities of Moldova on its irreversible way to the European Union.
