PM has meeting with India’s Ambassador to Moldova
New opportunities for cooperation and prospects for strengthening economic and investment relations between Moldova and India have been discussed at a meeting of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu with Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, India’s Ambassador to our country, residing in Bucharest, Romania.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu noted that attracting foreign investment into the economy of Moldova stayed a priority for the government. He invited Indian companies to explore sectors with high growth potential. Currently, 74 companies with Indian capital are registered in Moldova.
The officials referred to the need to capitalize on the cooperation potential in the energy, agriculture and bilateral trade sectors, as well as to launch joint projects focused, in particular, on developing infrastructure in Moldova. During January–November 2025, the bilateral trade reached approximately 74.6 million US dollars, up against the year before.
Another key topic of the discussions concerned access for Moldovan agricultural products to the Indian market. In February 2025, Moldovan apples got free access to the Indian market, one of the largest consumer markets in the world, which had previously been closed to producers of Moldova.
The sides also highlighted the cooperation in the education field, with over 1,260 Indian students studying medicine at higher education institutions of Moldova.
