Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu took part in the panel Black Sea and the Middle Corridor, held during the Three Seas Initiative Summit in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

The discussions focused on the increasingly important role of the Middle Corridor, which connects Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey and the Black Sea region, in the context of disrupted trade routes after 2022. Participants examined current challenges, existing bottlenecks and the investments needed for the full development of this strategic route.

In his address, the Prime Minister stressed that, in the current geopolitical context, the Middle Corridor is no longer just an alternative route, but a strategic necessity. However, according to the Premier, a number of challenges persist, related to insufficient infrastructure, limited interconnections and the lack of flexibility in systems.

“Energy, transport and logistics must operate as an integrated system. Only in this way can we achieve real resilience, better connectivity and a concrete contribution to the stability of the entire region,” underlined Munteanu.

The official noted that the Republic of Moldova is focusing its efforts on strengthening interconnections with Romania and Ukraine, developing domestic capacities for energy generation and balancing, as well as modernising infrastructure. In the field of transport and logistics, priorities include the rehabilitation and electrification of railways, the modernisation of the Giurgiulești Port and the development of an intermodal freight terminal in Chișinău – projects that will contribute to integrating the Republic of Moldova into regional supply chains.
