Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has had a meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, on the sidelines of the Three Seas Initiative Summit in Dubrovnik. The discussions focused on strengthening regional resilience, energy security and deepening bilateral cooperation, in the context of the challenges generated by the war in Ukraine.

The two officials exchanged assessments on recent crises that had affected the region and analyzed how Moldova and Ukraine managed them through coordination and mutual support. The sides also addressed the pollution incident on the Dniester River in last March, where the swift response and cooperation between the authorities helped limit the impact on the population and the environment, as well as the energy crisis triggered by the damage to the Vulcanesti–Isaccea power line, which was overcome without major outages.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu noted that these experiences had revealed both the common vulnerabilities and the ability of the two states to act effectively in crisis situations.

“We have gone through difficult situations together and have shown that we can act quickly, in a coordinated and responsible manner. Resilience is not built in theory, but in such moments. That is why, it is essential to continue strengthening our cooperation, especially in critical areas, such as energy, infrastructure and environmental protection,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

The officials discussed the need to accelerate energy interconnection projects and infrastructure development, in order to reduce critical dependencies and enhance the energy security of both states. They also highlighted the role of regional cooperation and European partnerships in effectively managing crises and strengthening stability in the region.
