Speaker on State Flag Day: This symbol unites us as nation and reminds us of path we have taken toward freedom, independence and our place in world

Speaker Igor Grosu, together with members of Parliament and the Government took part in a ceremony dedicated to State Flag Day. Today, the Republic of Moldova marks 36 years since the tricolor was adopted as a symbol of our sovereignty, independence and national identity.

“Today we honor the Tricolor, the State Flag of our country – the symbol that unites us as a nation and reminds us of the path we have taken toward freedom, independence, and our place in the world. To honor the State Flag means to know our past and to respect our history. Each color expresses the character and traditions of our people,” he said.

Grosu also noted that State Flag Day is an additional opportunity to thank all those who wear the tricolor with pride both abroad and at home.

“Under this flag, our forebears fought for freedom. Under the same flag, we have the duty to build the future and to lead the Republic of Moldova to where it belongs: into a community of free and prosperous countries. And we can achieve this only by standing together, day by day, each of us working honestly and with care for our fellow citizens. As long as the tricolor lives in our hearts, this nation cannot be defeated,” said Grosu.

The tricolor was officially designated as the State Flag on April 27, 1990, by the deputies of the first Parliament. Later, in 2010, Parliament established April 27 as State Flag Day.
