European Union leaders welcome PAS victory in Moldova's parliamentary elections

The highest officials of the European Union conveyed messages of congratulations and support to Moldova on Monday, after the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) retained its parliamentary majority following Sunday's elections.

"The future of Moldova is in Europe!" wrote European Parliament President Roberta Metsola on platform X, emphasizing that "the people of Moldova have chosen the path of democracy, hope, and opportunities."

European Council President Antonio Costa noted that "the people of Moldova have expressed their vote, and their message is clear and strong. They have chosen democracy, reform, and a European future, even in the face of pressures and interferences from Russia." He reiterated the European Union's commitment: "The EU stands with Moldova. Every step of the way."

In turn, European diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas denounced Russia's attempts to influence the vote. "Despite Russia's massive efforts to spread disinformation and buy votes, no force can stop a people committed to freedom. We stand with Moldova on their path to the EU," she stated.
