President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu had a meeting today with Romania’s Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who is visiting Chișinău for an exchange of experience in the local public administration.

The discussions took place in the context of the deteriorating security situation in the region, following a Russian drone attack on a residential building in Galați.

The head of state strongly condemned the incident, calling it “a serious violation of Romanian airspace” and “another proof of the devastating effects of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine on the entire region.” Thus, solidarity with Romania and peace in the region were the central message of the meeting, with the two leaders agreeing that “it is essential for the Republic of Moldova and Romania to continue strengthening their cooperation for peace and security.”

Beyond security issues, the meeting included an exchange of experience on modernizing public services for citizens by making use of European funds, with Romania—as an EU member state that has already gone through this process—serving as an important reference point for Moldova in view of its accession perspective.
