Prime Minister: Dniester unites us more than it divides us
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu delivered a message today on Dniester Day, in which he emphasized the importance of the river for the Republic of Moldova and shared responsibility to protect water resources.
In a post, the official said that the Dniester represents “more than just a line on the map,” evoking childhood and youth memories connected to the river’s banks.
“The Dniester provides us with water, sustains communities, agriculture, and the economy. But beyond all this, it also gives us a sense of continuity,” the prime minister noted.
The Dniester was described by the official as an element that unites people on both banks, regardless of political or geographical differences.
In his message, Alexandru Munteanu also referred to concerns that arose after the Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure in the Novodnestrovsk area, which sparked fears about possible effects on water sources and on the Dniester River.
According to the prime minister, these events have shown how important the river is for the population and how dependent the Republic of Moldova is on the resources it provides.
“People’s health, the development of our localities, and the future of coming generations all depend on the state of the Dniester,” he declared.
In conclusion, the prime minister urged citizens to protect the river, stressing that caring for the Dniester means caring for the Republic of Moldova and for future generations.
Dniester Day is celebrated every year on the last Sunday of May.
