Over 1,000 children from across the country sang in unison at the third edition of the Great Children’s Choir – an initiative that promotes solidarity, friendship and unity through music. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu took part in the event held yesterday in the square of Maria Bieșu National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Chișinău.

On stage performed 20 choirs and more than 20 conductors from Chișinău, Sîngera, Ciorescu, Costești, Fălești, Glodeni, Ialoveni, Leova, Orhei and Cahul, accompanied by the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra. The event promotes diversity, inclusion and social cohesion, bringing together children of different ethnicities, refugee children from Ukraine and children with disabilities.

In his speech, Munteanu emphasized the role of education, culture and artistic activities in children’s development and in building a more united society.

“In a choir there is no room for selfishness. Every voice matters, and harmony appears when all these voices come together for a common purpose. Perhaps this is also one of the most important things we can learn as a society,” the Prime Minister said.

The official stressed that investments in children are the most important investment in the future of the Republic of Moldova: “Our responsibility is to build modern schools, to provide access to quality education, cultural and sports activities, development opportunities, scholarships and conditions that allow them to turn their talent into performance. We want every child to know they have a seat at the grown‑ups’ table. Their voice matters. That their ideas matter. That they can take part in building the country in which they will live.”

On the eve of International Children’s Day and at the start of the summer holidays, the Prime Minister conveyed a congratulatory message to children and parents, encouraging them to spend time together and to support the curiosity, creativity and personal development of the little ones.

The Great Children’s Choir is inspired by the tradition of choral festivals in the Baltic States and was launched in the Republic of Moldova in 2007 by conductors Elena Marian and Victor Creangă. The event is organized by UNICEF, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Research, in partnership with the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra.
