Foreign ministry: We request Russian authorities to refrain from commenting or interfering in internal affairs of Moldova, including country's history
Chisinau, July 13. /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE) requested the Russian authorities to refrain from commenting or interfering in the internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova, including church issues and the history of our country. The request was made after, in recent days, the Russian authorities made controversial statements, including regarding the Stalinist deportations and the role of the church in society.
MAEIE noted that the church should promote the Christian values of peace and unity in our society, and not war and aggression.
"With reference to the statements about the deportations from then territory of the Republic of Moldova, we consider them completely unacceptable, which represent an attempt to distort the tragic historical events that our country went through," the ministry said.
"The actions of that time caused long suffering to our people. We invite the representatives of the Russian Embassy to visit, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., the wagons installed in the Great National Assembly Square to talk with the historians on duty - university professors, scientific researchers, specialists in the field to find out the historical truth about the Soviet-induced famine and deportations massive in Gulag", MAEIE said.
The institution's reaction comes after the Russian Embassy in Chisinau yesterday criticized the museum of Stalinist victims in the Great National Assembly Square and announced that the actions were aimed at "intentionally inciting hatred towards Russia and everything Russian".
