Moldovan president says Moldova achieved victory against the mafia six year ago, country on right path today
Six years ago, we achieved a victory against the generalized fear in society, the mafia that had total control over state institutions, and a chronic lack of hope for the future. Today, Moldova is on the right path. President Maia Sandu has conveyed a message to this effect, on the occasion of the sixth since the taking over of the governance.
The Moldovan president emphasized that the way of "building a European, sovereign and free Moldova" was long and difficult, but the country had succeeded in "achieving the status of candidate for EU accession, earning the respect of countries around the world and maintaining peace in tumultuous times".
"When on June 8, 2019, I said from the Parliament rostrum 'The dictator has fallen!' I knew this was only the beginning of a long and arduous journey to cleanse the state, modernize and build a European, sovereign and free Moldova. Complicated years followed, with crises at regional and global levels, a bloody war at the border, mistakes were made, disappointments were felt, but we always cared for the people and the country. And I would not want us to forget, in the face of daily challenges and current problems, where we started from. And what we succeeded to achieve – the status of candidate for EU accession, respect from countries around the world, peace during troubled times, freedom of speech and protest in Moldova, a real chance for prosperity," declared Maia Sandu.
The official noted that "if we forget the toxic governments Moldova has gone through, we run the risk of losing the country again to such a danger".
"We remember why we came - we did not come for applause, I said it 6 years ago, we are not perfect, we are learning, but our goal has remained the same over the years - for it to be well at home. If we forget the toxic governments Moldova has gone through, we risk losing Moldova again to such a danger. Let's imagine where we would be today, if Plahotniuc, Shor, Platon and others like them had remained in power and controlled the country over these 6 years," Maia Sandu stated.
The head of state called on citizens for unity, being confident that "Moldova is on the right path today".
"Dear Moldovans, let's remember what we have achieved together, with much courage and dignity, in order to remain united on the chosen path. Certainly, there is much work to be done, we need to change the speed of development, but not the direction. Moldova is on the right path today," Maia Sandu stressed.
On June 8, 2019, 61 deputies from the Action and Solidarity Party, Party of Dignity and Truth Platform, and the Party of Socialists of Moldova unanimously voted for Maia Sandu as the Prime Minister of Moldova.
