About 1,000 children from across the country today assembled on the square of the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theater from Chisinau for the Great Children's Choir, to sing in unison.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean attended the event. He emphasized that, with each song, the children had brought joy and warmed the hearts of the listeners.
‘’I was delighted this evening to listen to about 1,000 children from all over the country, who gathered in Chișinău to convey us a message: music unites us and makes the world more beautiful. The Great Children's Choir is living proof of this. With each song, they brought us joy and warmed our hearts. I thanked Mrs. Elena and Adriano Marian, who managed to gather so many wonderful voices and unite them into a single choir,’’ said Dorin Recean.
The event gathered 1,000 children from all over the country, united in an impressive choir, composed of about 20 choral groups, conducted by over 20 music teachers from such settlements as Balti, Cahul, Orhei, Soroca, Ciorescu, Drochia, Leova, Ialoveni, and Costesti.
The Great Children's Choir promotes social cohesion, with choral singing being the most democratic and inclusive form of art. The event is organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and Research and the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra.
The first choir celebration, inspired by choral festivals in the Baltic countries, was organized in Moldova by conductors Victor Creanga and Elena Marian in 2007.
