Moldovan parliament speaker says citizens should work together, shoulder to shoulder, unwaveringly for a Moldova in peace, safety
Moldova is on the right path today. Let's work together, shoulder to shoulder, unwaveringly for a Moldova in peace and safety. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has conveyed a message to this effect, in the context of marking six years since the government was taken over.
On June 8, 2019, 61 deputies from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, as well as the Party of Socialists from Moldova unanimously voted for the candidacy of Maia Sandu as the prime minister of Moldova.
On this occasion, President Maia Sandu said that, six years ago, a ‘’victory against the generalized fear in society, the mafia that had total control over the state institutions and a chronic lack of hope in the future’’ had been achieved.
'When on June 8, 2019, I said from the parliamentary tribune 'The dictator has fallen!' I knew it was just the beginning of a long and arduous road to cleanse the state, modernize and build a European, sovereign and free Moldova. Complicated years followed, with crises at the regional and global level, a bloody war at the border; we made mistakes, we had disappointments, but we always cared for the people and the country. And I wouldn't want us to forget, in the face of daily challenges and current problems, where we started from. And what we managed to achieve – status of candidate for joining the EU, respect from countries around the world, peace in turbulent times, freedom of speech and protest in Moldova, the real chance for prosperity,’’ stated Maia Sandu.
The head of state called on citizens for unity, being confident that ‘’Moldova is on the right path today.’’
‘’Dear Moldovans, let's remember what we managed to achieve together, with much courage and dignity, to remain united in the chosen direction. Surely, we have much work to do; we need to change the pace of development, but not the direction. Moldova is on the right path today,’’ emphasized Maia Sandu.
Such priorities as freeing the state from captivity and strengthening the independence of institutions, removing the country from isolation and restarting the economy, creating conditions for ensuring well-being and improving the quality of life were included in the action programme of the government led by Maia Sandu.
On the external stage, the main commitment was the European integration of Moldova, deepening cooperation with Romania and Ukraine, as well as with other European countries.
