Romania's president to pay first official visit to Chisinau on 10 June

President Maia Sandu will host resident of Romania Nicusor Dan in Chisinau on 10 June, who will pay his first official visit to Moldova.

The welcome ceremony will take place at 13:40. At 15:10, the two heads of state will hold a joint press conference.

“This visit reconfirms the deep and special nature of the bilateral relations – built on historical, cultural and linguistic ties – and reflects the shared commitment to strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation for the benefit of citizens on both banks of the Prut River,” the presidential institution said.

Nicusor Dan has earlier said that the first country he would like to visit as head of state was Moldova. According to him, such a decision “has a symbolic significance.”

The official noted that Romania had pre-accession experience, that it can shared with Moldova.

“Romania's policy towards Moldova has been the right policy. We have an energy partnership that has reduced Moldova's dependence on the Russian Federation. Now, in my opinion, the main goal of Moldova is integration into the European Union. There is a schedule until 2030 that Romania must support, both diplomatically and operationally. We have pre-accession experience, which we can share with Moldova,” said Nicusor Dan.

In Moldova, over 158,000 Romanians voted at the Romanian presidential elections, marking a historic turnout. Nicusor Dan garnered 88 per cent or 138,320 of the ballots cast by voters from Moldova.
