President Maia Sandu today awarded the Order of Honour to Fred Duijn,  Ambassador of Kingdom of the Netherlands to Moldova, during a farewell meeting marking the end of his mandate. The distinction was granted as a sign of high appreciation for the ambassador’s contribution to deepening Moldovan–Dutch relations and for supporting the European path of Moldova.

Fred Duijn was the first Dutch ambassador with residence in Chisinau. President Maia Sandu thanked him for the constant support offered to Moldova in promoting democratic reforms, strengthening the rule of law, reforming the justice system and implementing the vetting process, as well as in enhancing the country’s resilience in the face of hybrid threats, all of which have strengthened Moldova’s accession process to the European Union.

The two officials reviewed the evolution of the bilateral relations, which in recent years have been marked by intensified political dialogue, strengthened cooperation in the fields of security and justice and increased trade exchanges. In last May, President Maia Sandu paid a visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, where she met Prime Minister Rob Jetten and other Dutch officials, while in April, Moldovan–Dutch security consultations were held in The Hague.
