Priorities of Moldova's Tofan government in first weeks of mandate: economic growth, reforms, strengthening citizens' trust

The main priorities that will guide the work of the government from the very first weeks of its mandate focus on economic growth, strengthening citizens’ trust and continuing the implementation of major reforms, including tax reform, salary reform and the reform of local public administration. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan presented the priorities immediately after the ceremony on the swearing-in of the new government, held in the presence of President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today morning.

“The main priority of this government is to restart the economy and the first measures concern actions that will allow us to do this,” said Vasile Tofan.

The second priority announced by the prime minister is strengthening people’s trust.

“Second: I believe it is very important to rebuild and strengthen people’s trust. We’ve had a string of events that have undermined that trust. I think we must take certain measures, including to bring more transparency and to address the issue of the salaries perceived as excessive,” Tofan noted.

At the same time, the third priority concerns continuing the implementation of tax reform, salary reform and the reform of local public administration.

“Third: we must not avoid the major problems we have, the major reforms that we must implement. We will work with the entire team to bring to a successful conclusion those major reforms already launched—tax reform, salary reform and the reform of local public administration,” said Vasile Tofan.

The new cabinet of ministers, led by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, today took the oath of office at the Presidency of Moldova, before Head of State Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. The ceremony took place after, on July 21 evening,  the parliament had given a vote of confidence to the Tofan government and approved the governing programme, European Economy, Efficient State.
