Moldovan parliament speaker has meeting with President of India
The official visit to Moldova by President of India Droupadi Murmu opens a new stage in the bilateral relations and creates premises for expanding economic and investment cooperation between the two states. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has made statements to this effect, during his meeting with the Indian head of state, on her first official visit to Moldova.
According to Igor Grosu, Moldova aims to strengthen its partnership with India by developing joint projects and attracting investments in such areas as energy, the pharmaceutical industry, agriculture and education.
“This visit opens a new stage in the relations between Moldova and India. We want more investments and joint projects in energy, the pharmaceutical industry, agriculture and education. Moldova is not a large market, but it is an agile, smart economy, increasingly connected to the European Union market,” said the parliament speaker.
During the discussions, Igor Grosu emphasized that India is the largest democracy in the world, while Moldova is a young democracy that is consolidating its European path and developing partnerships with states that share the same democratic values.
The speaker noted that, in recent years, solid foundations had been laid for deepening Moldovan-Indian relations. They include the opening of the Embassy of Moldova in New Delhi, the participation of an Indian company in the construction of the Vulcanesti–Chisinau Power Line following its success in an international tender, as well as the presence of approximately 1,400 Indian students at universities of Moldova, most of them enrolled in medicine programmes.
“I am convinced that today’s dialogue will be followed by concrete projects and closer ties between the people, institutions and business communities of our countries,” Igor Grosu concluded.
President of India Droupadi Murmu is paying an official visit to Chisinau, this being the first visit by an Indian head of state to Moldova.
Moldova aims to expand cooperation with India in strategic areas, such as trade, investment, renewable energy, education, health, the pharmaceutical industry, and emerging technologies. The statements were made by President Maia Sandu and the President of India Droupadi Murmu, during the joint press conference held on In Chisinau today.
