Moldovan designated PM says Gagauzia an important bridge to Turkey
Gagauzia is an important bridge to Turkey. I very much want that, together with the leaders of Gagauzia, we manage to strengthen strong ties with Ankara. The message was delivered today by the designated Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, who is presenting the government programme in parliament.
According to the candidate nominated for the position of PM, strengthening relations with Turkey is the number one priority regarding Gagauzia.
“In my opinion, Gagauzia is a great asset that is not sufficiently exploited. It is a great wealth of ours, from a cultural and gastronomic point of view. If you ask me what my priority will be in relation to Gagauzia, it will be, first of all, to use this great asset to build much more dynamic relations, including commercial and economic ones, with Turkey,” emphasized Vasile Tofan.
He noted that, in the near future, he intends to make a working visit to Comrat.
“I have been to Comrat many times. In my experience as a winemaker, I had many vineyards in the Gagauzia region, over 600 hectares and almost one thousand employees. I will definitely go to Comrat. I know the reality in Gagauzia, the reality of winemaking, the problems there, depopulation and drought. I know these things very well not from reports, but because, for more than 15 years, I have been constantly present there,” added Vasile Tofan.
The parliament today convened at a plenary session, in order to examine the government’s activity programme and to give a vote of confidence to the new cabinet of ministers. The mandate of the new cabinet will be focused on the direction, “Moldova – a European, safe and prosperous country, in which private initiative creates growth, and an efficient and competent state delivers quality public services that improve people’s lives.”
