Moldovan president has meeting with mayors of Gagauz autonomy
President Maia Sandu has had a meeting with the mayors from the Territorial Autonomous Unit of Gagauzia (UTA Gagauzia), as part of the ongoing consultations on the organization of elections in the Gagauz autonomy. Representatives of the parliament, the State Chancellery, and the Central Electoral Commission also took part in the discussions.
The participants discussed the prospects for organizing the elections, in the context of the Constitutional Court’s decision, which provides legal clarity regarding the division of competences and creates the conditions for conducting an electoral process based on clear, transparent rules, that are equal for all electoral competitors.
The participants reconfirmed the importance of maintaining constant and constructive dialogue between central and local authorities, in order to identify solutions that would contribute to the development of UTA Gagauzia and respond to the interests of the region’s residents.
