Acting finance minister of Moldova says to continue to help his country, regardless of role he finds himself in

Andrian Gavrilita has announced that he was ending his tenure as Minister of Finance. The official said that had accepted this position, in order to promote reforms he deemed as necessary for Moldova, even if they were not going to be popular.

In a post, Gavrilita said that the period spent leading the Ministry of Finance had been marked by political and institutional challenges, noting that a minister’s work involves much more than managing figures and economic policies.

“It is a profoundly political role, in a very complex and even hostile environment, especially during this period,” Gavrilita wrote.

The minister acknowledged that he had made mistakes during his mandate, specifying that he tried to advance one of the most difficult reforms in a complex context for the government.

At the same time, Andrian Gavrilita expressed concern about the phenomenon of disinformation and the spread of false information in the public space. He criticized the dissemination of information he considers untrue by certain people in the media and the public sphere, giving as an example a rumor according to which he allegedly had an altercation during a television programme, information he described as false.

At the end of his message, Gavrilita said that he would continue to contribute to the development of Moldova, regardless of the position he will hold in the future.

“The oath I took to Moldova stays valid and I will continue to help my country, regardless of the role in which I find myself,” the former minister said.

Andrian Gavrilita also said that the economy of Moldova must be redirected from a consumption-based model to one focused on investment and he wished success to the new governmental team.

Andrian Gavrilita has held the position of Minister of Finance since November 2025.
