Moldovan Ambassador in Moscow summoned to Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry
Moldova’s Ambassador in Moscow Lilian Darii has been summoned today to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The diplomat was handed an official protest over alleged violations of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, after, according to Moscow, Moldovan police officers had reportedly used force against employees of the Russian Embassy and threatened them with detention.
In the context, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that all actions taken in relation to diplomatic missions accredited in Moldova were carried out in strict accordance with the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and with the legislation of Moldova.
"Moldova faithfully observes its international obligations and will continue to act in full compliance with the norms of international law and with the principle of reciprocity in diplomatic relations," the institution said.
The Russian authorities claim that the incidents allegedly took place on July 19 in Chisinau and during the night of July 20 to 21, this year, at the Leuseni border crossing point.
