Head of State congratulated Gagauzia residents on Hederlez holiday

President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu sent a congratulatory message to all Gagauz citizens who are celebrating today one of the most important holidays of the community – Hederlez.

In a message posted on her page, the head of state mentions that this celebration is a symbol of nature's revival.

"This holiday reflects the belief in a fruitful year and the hope for prosperity and fulfilled life. The traditions of the Gagauz community are part of the rich cultural heritage of our country – and they must be protected, preserved and passed on from generation to generation. Saygılı Gagauzlar, Hederlez yortunuz kutlu olsun! Sizä saalık, bereket hem dirlik dileerim. Bizi birleştirän hem kaavileştirän adetleri birliktä koruyalım," wrote the president.

Gagauzia residents celebrate Hederlez on 6 May, marked each year on the day when old-style Orthodox Christians celebrate Saint George. On this occasion, a program of cultural and sports activities is planned in Ceadâr-Lunga, organized this year by the Agency for Interethnic Relations (ARI).

The event is organized in partnership with the local administration of Ceadâr-Lunga and will include art and tradition exhibitions; ethnic courts with local music and gastronomy; workshops for children; craft fairs; national wrestling tournament GÜREŞ; activities for young people and thematic photo area; an exceptional festive concert; outdoor party.

According to tradition, after Hederlez spring gets into full swing, and fieldwork becomes more intense and productive.
