PHOTO // Investments worth 4.8 million lei in schools of Moldova: over 100 institutions to receive modern equipment

Pupils from 108 schools of Moldova will be able to carry out interactive activities, such as experiments with digital sensors, building and programming robots in class, examining samples under a microscope and creating objects with 3D printers. These activities will be possible after the institutions were equipped with modern devices through a total investment of about 4.8 million lei.

The equipment is provided under the project, Improving the Quality of Education, (EQIP), implemented by the Education and Research Ministry (MEC), with financial support on behalf of the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education.

The batch includes multifunctional platforms for physics, chemistry and biology experiments, robotics kits and electronic circuits, multimeters and digital microscopes, as well as 3D printers. They will be used during lessons and interdisciplinary projects.

State Secretary of the MEC Valentina Olaru has said that, through this equipment, the authorities aim for students to learn science and technology through practical experiences, not only from textbooks.

"Pupils will be able to take measurements, analyze data, build and programme robots, and also turn a digital project into a real object. The equipment helps develop critical thinking, creativity and the skills needed for the professions of the future," said Valentina Olaru.

Labdisc multifunctional platforms will be used for physics, chemistry and biology experiments. They are equipped with sensors that allow the measurement of temperature, light, pressure and other parameters. Data collected during experiments can be displayed and represented graphically, helping pupils to notice, compare and analyze the phenomena under study.

LEGO Education SPIKE and SPIKE Essential kits will allow students to build and programme mechanisms and robots. They will be used in computer science, robotics and technology classes, as well as in projects that bring together knowledge from multiple subjects.

Schools will also receive sets of electronic circuits for physics and digital multimeters. With their help, pupils will be able to study how electric circuits work and measure voltage, current intensity and resistance.

Portable digital microscopes can be used to examine plants, insects, crystals and other samples, both in the laboratory and during outdoor activities.

With 3D printers, students will be able to design and produce parts for robots, geometric shapes, models, prototypes and other teaching aids. The objects created can be tested and improved based on results, so that students go through all stages of a project—from idea and digital modeling to the production and evaluation of the final product.

The 108 schools are part of 200 beneficiary educational institutions under the Improving the Quality of Education (EQIP) Project. They were selected in 2024 through a public competition organized by the Education and Research Ministry and received equipment (computers, interactive whiteboards, equipment for science labs, etc.), furniture and teaching and methodological materials.

The beneficiary institutions were selected based on more criteria, with priority given to those with a higher number of students at risk, students with special educational needs, refugee students and institutions that have not received new equipment in the last five years.
