Moldovan deputy PM, headmasters of 8 Romanian-language education institutions from left bank of Dniester discuss admission, preparations for new academic year

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri, along with representatives of the Education and Research Ministry (MEC) and the Reintegration Policies Bureau, today held a working meeting with the headmasters of the 8 Romanian‑language educational institutions from the Transnistrian region.

The discussions highlighted the steadily growing interest of children and parents of the region in enrolling at these institutions, as well as the upward trend in the number of applications. Special attention was given to the admission process to upper secondary (lyceum) education for the 2026/2027 academic year, which takes place in two stages, on the period 13 July – 14 August 2026.

The participants reviewed preparations for the beginning of the new academic year, the institutions’ capacity to respond to the increasing demand, the needs for expansion and improvement of educational facilities, as well as the difficulties that continue to affect the proper conduct of the educational process. The sides reiterated the need to identify concrete solutions, so as to enable as many children from the region as possible to access studies aligned with the national curriculum and educational standards.

The participants also emphasized that graduates of institutions from the Transnistrian region who studied under the 11‑grade school programme had the opportunity to participate in the admission competition to higher education institutions of Moldova, including universities from Chisinau, for the special‑purpose places reserved for this category. After successfully passing the competition, they can attend a compensatory year meant to facilitate the continuation of their studies and their integration into the national education system.

The Education and Research Ministry is in the process of developing an action plan for young people from educational institutions of the Transnistrian region who wish to continue their studies in the national system. The document will aim to facilitate academic transition, ensure information, guidance and support services, and create the necessary conditions for their successful integration and adaptation. Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Chiveri reconfirmed that supporting the 8 institutions and expanding access for young people from the region to quality education stayed constant priorities on the government’s agenda.
