All household consumers to benefit from compensations for electricity in Moldova
All household consumers will benefit from compensations for electric energy, including directly in invoices, starting from February, this year. The compensations are to be received starting from next March for the consumption for February. The government approved provisions to this end today.
Labour and Social Protection Minister Alexei Buzu stressed that the government, with the European Union’s support, provided financial backing to the households from all over Moldova, in order to mitigate the impact of the increase in tariffs for electric energy.
„The cabinet of ministers approved a decision which provides for the implementation of this measure. The compensations will be provided to all families directly in invoice, through the provider, on the period February-December 2025. The first compensations will be contained in the invoices in March, which will show the consumption for February. At the same time, in the case of those who have already received the invoices, the providers will make a recalculation,’’ Alexei Buzu said.
The compensations will cover the difference between the regulated price and the reference price, up to a ceiling of 1.84 lei/kWh, applicable to the quantity of energy consumed monthly, which will not exceed the limit of 110 kWh for one consumption place.
„One hundreds and ten kWh would account for 80 per cent of the average monthly of electricity for one family. The assistance will be provided to all families, no matter whether they registered in the compensations system or not. This measure will ensure a fair distribution of the aid, with a significant impact on the low-income households. Also, the citizens will be able to give up this support, through an application to the provider,’’ Alexei Buzu said.
The official also said that those over 710,000 families, who had benefited from compensations for heating and electricity, after they registered in the Assistance at Meter programme, would receive support for February and March for heating in cash, while for electric energy – in the invoice. The next compensations will be provided starting from 10 March.
The energy providers will carry out the monthly calculation of the sum compensated from the Vulnerability Reduction Fund for each household consumer and in the invoices issued, they will mention the overall cost of the electric energy supplied, the value of compensation provided and the final sum which the consumer must pay following the enforcement of this compensation.
The providing of compensations for electric energy for all households of Moldova is carried out within the package of financial support provided by the European Union for the 2025 year.
