Moldova prepares for technical negotiations with EU on Internal Market, External Relations chapters
Discussions have been launched between the responsible institutions and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov on Cluster 2 – Internal Market and Cluster 6 – External Relations. The meeting focused on preparing the technical negotiations for Moldova’s accession to the European Union and strengthening the country’s position in front of European partners.
The talks focused on the main areas included in the two clusters: the free movement of goods, workers and capital, right of the commercial companies and intellectual property, consumers’ protection, trade relations and external security policy. The meeting aimed to assess the state of present reforms, identify the necessary measures and develop the strategy for presenting Moldova’s position to European partners.
“We are continuing the preparatory meetings for the technical negotiations. This time, we are discussing Cluster 2 – Internal Market and Cluster 6 – External Relations. Together with colleagues from the competent institutions, we analyzed what we need to do in the coming period and how to present more effectively the position of Moldova in the discussions with Brussels. We addressed priority reforms and the steps needed to align with European standards,” said Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov.
Cluster 2 – Internal Market refers to the harmonization of the legislation and regulations of Moldova with European Union rules in the economic and commercial fields. It includes such areas as the free movement of goods, services, workers and capital, company law, intellectual property, consumers’ protection and competition.
Cluster 6 – External Relations focuses on foreign and security policy, diplomatic and trade relations, defence policy and international cooperation. This chapter aims to align Moldova with EU standards in terms of security, external dialogue and involvement in regional and international initiatives.
