EUROPE NEAR // Main street in Telița to be rehabilitated with government support

Telița village, Anenii Noi district has been selected for the second stage of the national program Europe Near 2025 edition — a large-scale project aimed at modernizing local road infrastructure in the localities within the Security Zone.

Telița mayor Rodica Russu said that the project will bring a major transformation to the community. The allocated funds are exclusively intended for road repair and modernization. The locality will benefit from 5 million lei for carrying out the works.

"An important section of the communal street Tighina will be rehabilitated, where road asphalt works, construction of the drainage system, sidewalks, driveway accesses, as well as the arrangement of side routes and green areas will be executed," the mayor said.

The resulting infrastructure will be modern and innovative, aligned with the program's Financing Guide and European standards.

"The government requested these interventions to be capital so that citizens can benefit from modern, durable, and safe conditions," Russu emphasized.

According to the mayor, the project has been awaited for decades.

"It is great luck for our community. The population has been requesting for nearly 30 years the rehabilitation of this access road. Roads are vital for half of the village, providing direct links to public institutions such as schools, kindergartens, the medical center, cultural and commercial institutions," she added.

Telița consists of two villages – Telița and Telița Nouă – and has a population of approximately 1200 inhabitants. Due to its proximity to large cities, the locality is increasingly becoming a residential area. Most citizens work in industries in urban centers, including Chișinău. Thus, road modernization is not a whim but a necessity for thousands who commute daily.

"The project was consulted with the whole community and was unanimously approved, particularly for this road section to be rehabilitated because it connects half of the village. It ensures residents' access from that area to public infrastructure, such as schools, kindergartens, shopping centers, cultural institutions, medical institutions, etc!" Rodica Russu stated.

Telița has a gymnasium, a kindergarten, a children's center, a culture house, and a museum. The locality is also an important tourist attraction point on the banks of the Nistru River. Annually, Telița is visited by over 10,000 tourists.

Europe Near program, launched by the Government of the Republic of Moldova aims not only to improve local infrastructure but also to strengthen ties between communities on both sides of the Dniester. In the 2025 edition, alongside Telița, six other localities in the Security Zone will benefit from similar projects.

The seven new projects add to the 12 already implemented in the first edition of the program, confirming the authorities' commitment to the sustainable and equitable development of localities in this strategic region.

In total, 579 local road infrastructure projects have been declared eligible for the 2025 edition and included in the Single Program Document for 2025–2027, according to the government decision on 30 July 2025.

For Telița residents, this project means more than asphalt and sidewalks: it is a safe bridge to development, connectivity and better life.
