Approved by Government. One-off birth allowance to be increased to 21,886 lei
The one-off birth allowance is set to be increased from 21,350 lei to 21,886 lei starting 1 January 2026. The amendments are included in the draft state social insurance budget law (BASS) for 2026, which was approved today by the Government.
During the cabinet meeting, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru emphasized that the program is also dedicated to families with young children.
"We invest in the family; we must provide every child born in Moldova with a safe start in life, and parents must be supported by the Government at every step. In this regard, we have a budget of nearly 5 billion lei, an increase from last year. The one-off birth allowance increases to 21,886 lei, which is a 130% increase compared to 2021," said Natalia Plugaru.
Additionally, starting from 2022, the Government also provides a monthly allowance for child care up to two years of age in the amount of 1,000 lei.
"Next year we will support over 78,000 children. For insured parents, we will continue to provide a monthly allowance of up to three years, which is calculated based on the salary of the parent with the highest earnings. I want to remind you that the family and child support system is a digital, very well-organized system, and there is no need for any application, as all payments are made automatically," highlighted Natalia Plugaru.
The Government today approved the draft state social insurance budget law for 2026. The budget provides for revenues amounting to 51.45 billion lei and expenditures amounting to 51.45 billion lei.
It is to be examined and voted on by the Parliament. After adoption and promulgation, this law comes into force on 1 January 2026.
BASS is a budget that is part of the national public budget, which collects and manages funds intended for the payment of pensions, allowances, and other social benefits. The funds are managed by the National House of Social Insurance.
