GMI warns about fake website offering paid extension of temporary protection for displaced people from Ukraine

The General Inspectorate for Migration (GMI) is warning about a fraudulent website – https://protectietemporara.md/, which falsely claims to offer paid services for extending temporary protection for displaced people from Ukraine.

According to GMI, the content and services promoted on this platform constitute a scam.

“This website is not managed by GMI nor by any public authority of the Republic of Moldova. We warn that the procedure for extending temporary protection is completely free of charge, and applications are submitted exclusively on the official platform – igm.gov.md, in the ‘Temporary protection’ section, under ‘Extend temporary protection’, in accordance with the instructions published by the competent authority,” the institution specified.

To avoid becoming victims of scammers, citizens are urged to consult only official sources to obtain accurate and up-to-date information regarding temporary protection or other services offered to foreigners.

They are also encouraged to immediately notify the police if they have been contacted by individuals requesting money for extending temporary protection or if they have used suspicious platforms for this purpose.
