Name of new Prosecutor General to be set on 19 August

The Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) has scheduled the final interview in the competition for the position of Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova for 19 August. Acting Prosecutor General Alexandru Machidon and interim chief prosecutor of PCCOCS Victor Furtună are running for the vacant position.

According to CSP President Dumitru Obadă, today's meeting reviewed the files of the two candidates.

The competition for the position of Prosecutor General was launched in June, with the deadline for application submission on 21 July. Candidates are evaluated based on clear criteria set by CSP, including professional training, integrity, and personal qualities. The candidate with the highest score will be proposed to the President of the Republic of Moldova for appointment.

The seat of the head of the General Prosecutor's Office became vacant in late May, when Ion Munteanu was appointed judge at the Supreme Court of Justice. Subsequently, Alexandru Machidon, then deputy of PCCOCS, was appointed interim head of the General Prosecutor's Office.
