
Moldova to attend new program on preventing, reducing pollution in Black Sea basin
Chisinau, 23 March /MOLDPRES/- Moldova will be a member of a new program to prevent and reduce pollution in the Black Sea basin, due to be launched by the World Bank in the second half of this year. Consultations with our country took place yesterday in the context of marking World Water Day.
To discuss the new regional program Blueing the Black Sea, as well as the most important issues of common interest related to the prevention of marine pollution and climate change in the Black Sea region, the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) will organize several consultative seminars with member countries.
The event was organized in two working sessions, attended by representatives of BSEC, experts from the World Bank and exponents of the research environment. The sides joined efforts to set the level of water pollution in the country, identify ways to prevent and reduce pollution in the Prut and Dniester rivers, review the methods of industrial wastewater disposal, evaluate the financial funds provided to reduce pollution in the Black Sea basin.
"The accessibility of water resources in Moldova and vulnerability to climate change determine the intensity of challenges on the water sector - 2020 is an eloquent example of the importance of water resources. The Black Sea is a natural laboratory of global importance for fundamental science, sustainability policy and the blue economy, which has great potential in the countries bordering the Black Sea as a whole, as it can be considered as a tool to promote cooperation, stability and empowerment. of the communities in the region ", said Ion Perju, Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM).
He noted willingness to guide and support the implementation of the initiatives, which will be a priority in Black Sea regional cooperation in the coming years. We invite state institutions and authorities to take into account the priorities of the Black Sea Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda in their transnational, cross-border and national research programs.
Blueing the Black Sea program is to be launched by the World Bank in the second half of 2021 and to be implemented by BSEC. The project is estimated at seven million dollars, aimed at reducing pollution on waterways and in the Black Sea. The program was meant to increase investment in the blue economy for the Black Sea region and strengthen dialogue between states.
