European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has paid a new visit to the Marta and Maria Monastery, a symbolic place of faith, traditions and spiritual continuity in Moldova.

According to the Delegation of the European Union in Chisinau, this is the second visit of the European official to the monastery, after the one paid in September 2025, which reconfirms her appreciation for the cultural and spiritual heritage of Moldova.

During the visit, Marta Kos highlighted the importance of values and traditions passed down from generation to generation, emphasizing that they represent an essential part of the country’s cultural richness.

“Values passed down from generation to generation are part of the cultural wealth of Moldova,” the European Commissioner noted.

The official stressed that, within the European Union, the cultural identity and traditions of communities are respected, promoted and kept alive, representing an important element of European diversity.

The agenda of her visit to Moldova also includes a component dedicated to environmental protection. Today, Marta Kos will travel to the banks of the Nistru River, in the locality of Onitcani, where she will participate, together with the Minister of Environment, Gheorghe Hajder, in a discussion panel dedicated to the protection of the Dniester River, water quality and European cooperation in the environment field.

The discussions will focus on identifying common solutions for protecting water resources, conserving ecosystems and sustainably managing protected natural areas, underlining the importance of cooperation between Moldova and the European Union in the field of environmental protection.
