PHOTO // United States reaffirms support for modernization, economic development of Ungheni municipality of Moldova

The Ungheni municipality is reaffirming its status as a hub for foreign investment and high-level international partnerships. This comes after Ungheni mayor Vitalie Vrabie today held an official meeting with Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova Nick Pietrowicz; the visit underscores the increased interest of the United States in the economic development of the region.

The discussions between the two officials focused on a broad range of strategic topics for the community, including the process of voluntary amalgamation, economic development prospects and the modernization of road infrastructure.

During the dialogue, Nick Pietrowicz highlighted the advantageous position of the municipality and the openness of local authorities toward innovation.

“The U.S. is interested in partnerships with commercial companies and sees Ungheni as having great potential for commercial diplomacy,” said the American official.

He expressed gratitude to the Ungheni City Hall team for their willingness to implement new projects and build new strategic partnerships. Moreover, the American diplomat praised the efficiency and proactive attitude of the local administration.

“You are efficient and have a positive attitude,” Pietrowicz emphasized. He assured mayor Vitalie Vrabie that this would be the key message he will convey to American companies interested in expanding into Moldova.

The visit of the American official is not a coincidence, as the Ungheni municipality has a long and rich history of bilateral relations with the United States.

These ties are visible on more levels:

Economic impact: In the Ungheni-Business Free Economic Zone, one of the most renowned American companies, Lear Corporation, is operating successfully and is a major employer in the region.

Historic twinning partnerships: Ungheni is twinned with two cities in the U.S.: Winston-Salem and Mankato. Notably, Winston-Salem holds the title of the first of the 22 cities with which Ungheni has twinned after the declaration of the independence of the Republic of Moldova.

Infrastructure projects: Over the years, numerous projects, including infrastructure ones, have been implemented in Ungheni, financed directly from the funds of the American people.

Through this high-level visit, both Ungheni City Hall and the U.S. Embassy have reaffirmed their strong commitment to ensuring that bilateral relations and joint projects continue and expand on the coming period, bringing tangible benefits to residents and the local business environment.
