IGSU rescuers to receive new specialized training in 2026
New joint training programs and courses, including in the urban search and rescue and interventions in aquatic environments will be organized in 2026 for the employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
According to IGSU, the trainings, essential for enhancing the intervention capabilities of Moldovan rescuers and for the Moldova Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team undergoing international qualification, will be supported by experts from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority in Turkey (AFAD). The program will cover two main areas: search and rescue in hostile environments and search, rescue, and recovery on and under water. Upon completion, IGSU employees will benefit from both specialized training and the necessary technical support and equipment for missions.
The decision was agreed upon during the meeting between the IGSU leadership, represented by the head of the institution, Colonel Aurel Baciu, and Tarik Mete, project coordinator within TIKA. The meeting took place on Wednesday at the IGSU headquarters in Chișinău and aimed to strengthen the Moldovan-Turkish partnership in the field of emergency situations.
The agenda of the discussions included new possibilities for collaboration, exchange of experiences, and best practices in the field. Colonel Aurel Baciu emphasized the necessity of these trainings for increasing the professional preparedness level of rescuers, noting the importance of cooperation with TIKA.
Tarik Mete appreciated the support provided by Moldovan rescuers in the mission carried out in Turkey in 2023, after the devastating earthquake, highlighting the essential role of partnerships in international interventions.
