President conveys congratulatory message to Jewish community on Hanukkah

President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu sent a congratulatory message to the country's Jewish community on Hanukkah holiday, which begins today and lasts for eight days.

The head of state emphasized the significance of Hanukkah as a symbol of light and hope, noting the importance of solidarity, mutual respect, and shared responsibility for the protection of peace, freedom, and human dignity. Additionally, Maia Sandu expressed wishes for peace, confidence, and unity for all families celebrating the holiday.

Hanukkah (or Chanukah, Hanuka), known as Festival of Lights is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after the victory of the Maccabean revolt against forced Hellenization, celebrating the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, faith over tyranny.
