Taras Shevchenko gymnasium's library enriched with Ukrainian children’s literature

Refugee students from Ukraine studying at Taras Shevchenko Gymnasium in Chișinău will have access to more books in their native language after the institution’s library received a collection of Ukrainian children’s literature. The donation was provided through a joint effort by the Ministry of Education and Research, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova, and the Red Cross Societies of Moldova and Ukraine.

The initiative aims to support the integration of refugee children by providing educational and literary resources to help them preserve their cultural identity and traditions while continuing their studies in Chișinău.

The donation complements the support previously provided to the institution, which received school textbooks in Ukrainian for classes taught in that language.

A total of 498 students study at Taras Shevchenko Gymnasium, 431 of whom are refugee children from Ukraine. Of the institution’s 20 classes, the educational process is conducted in Ukrainian in 12.

In the 2026–2027 academic year, four new classes taught in Ukrainian were opened, with the study of Romanian being compulsory, according to the Ministry of Education and Research.
