Romany women of Moldova demand equality at march on promoting women's, girls' rights

A march of Romany women, dedicated to promoting the rights of women and girls, on the occasion of International Romani Day, took place in Chisinau today. The event was organized by the Women's Platform 'Romni', in partnership with UN Women.

The president of the 'Romni' Platform, Elena Sîrbu, noted the constant increase in participation in the march. She described this as a sign of the community's growing active involvement and commitment to a society where all women benefit from equal opportunities.

'Year by year, the number of participants in this event increases, and this makes us happy. The solidarity march is a manifestation of our wish to be active citizens and to participate in the development of Moldova. We want any woman, regardless of color, not to be left behind,’’ said Elena Sîrbu.

The representative of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, Evghenia Hiora, told MOLDPRES that the European Union supported projects dedicated to the inclusion of Romany women, emphasizing the importance of ensuring equal opportunities and combating their marginalization.

‘’We promote such projects and hope to ensure equal opportunities for Romany women, as they are part of vulnerable and marginalized groups. This is a great challenge. We need to strengthen efforts, work together and invest in changing mindsets, so that these women can contribute to the development of society,’’ said Evghenia Hiora.
