Ethnic Festival, entitled Unity in Diversity is organized on 21 September in Chișinău. The event showcases the cultures of ethnic communities in the Republic of Moldova.
President Maia Sandu emphasized the importance of the Ethnic Festival as a symbol of Moldova's unity and beauty:
"The Festival shows us how beautiful and strong the Republic of Moldova is when each community contributes. Over the centuries, people of different origins have come and stayed on this land, each bringing their language, dances, songs, cuisines, and crafts."
The head of state highlighted that these cultural elements are found in the architecture of villages, celebrations, family customs, traditional costumes, and wedding songs, all becoming an integral part of the common identity of the Moldovan people.
"History has also given us harsh lessons. When united, we were able to build and live in peace. When divided, we all lost. Therefore, peace starts in our hearts, without it, we cannot build anything lasting," Maia Sandu stated.
Throughout the day, visitors will be able to explore 20 ethnic courtyards presenting the values and ethnocultural specificity of different communities, the craft objects expo-market, and the Lectorium area dedicated to learning about other cultures and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The event at its 24th edition is organized by the Agency for Interethnic Relations and the Chișinău City Hall, in partnership with the Coordinating Council of Ethnocultural Organizations. The aim of the event is to harness the traditions of national minorities, promote intercultural dialogue, and strengthen friendly relations between ethnic communities in our country.
