VIDEO // Moldovan authorities step up operations amid torrential rains: over three thousand emergencies registered by 112 Service

The authorities have switched to an enhanced monitoring and intervention mode, in the context of torrential rains, strong winds and massive water accumulation over the last 24 hours. The 112 Service registered 5,748 calls and 3,283 emergencies, and more than 300 employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) intervened in the affected localities.

The most affected areas were Calarasi district, with the most serious situation recorded in the localities of Hîrjauca and Mîndra, following the breach of the protective dam, and Ungheni, where 11 settlements were flooded. The responsible institutions continue interventions, in order to ensure traffic safety and provide the necessary support to the population. At the same time, the authorities have intervened to restore road and rail traffic conditions. The affected trains have resumed movement and passengers have reached their destinations safely after the temporary disruption of traffic.

Similarly, teams from the energy sector intervened to repair faults and reconnect affected consumers, in the context of partial power outages in some localities. The affected connection on the power line was restored at 23:56.

At the same time, IGSU carried out interventions for water pumping, clearing fallen trees, removing dangerous objects and conducting search-and-rescue operations following local floods and water accumulation. A total of 85 special vehicles and more than 300 employees were deployed. Field interventions are ongoing and risk areas are being patrolled and secured.

President Maia Sandu ordered continuous and rapid interventions in the context of the heavy rains over the last 24 hours. The head of state asked the government and the responsible ministries to take all necessary measures, assess the damage and provide support where the situation is severe.
