Chisinau-based Municipal Library launches programme of events dedicated to institution's 145th anniversary
Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/ - The B.P. Hasdeu Municipal Library from Chisinau this year will mark its 145th anniversary through a string of cultural actions. The programme of events due to be organized was launched at an online conference today.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the institution’s director, Mariana Harjevschi, said that, at the event, the anniversary logo and the anniversary access card had been launched. The access card will meet the users due to subscribe at those 27 branches of the Municipal Library this year.
The B.P. Hasdeu Municipal Library was inaugurated on 19 October 1877, initially as a city library and then as a central city library. In 1975-1991, the library had the duty of central library in the centralized system of public libraries from Chisinau and the status of municipal library. In 1950-1988, this library bore the name of a Soviet ideologist, A. Zhdanov and staring from 1988 – the name of an illustrious man of culture and science, writer B. P. Hasdeu. The Municipal Library has the task to provide free and fair access to information, education, ideas, opinions, readings; it encourages, backs the interest and freedom of knowing; ensures and develops modern services, necessary for the development of the Chisinau residents. The institution has 27 branches. The traditional and electronic fund forms a true national and universal treasure, which comprises more than one million volumes made available, without restrictions, for consultations to all consultants.
