Social worker from Chișinău involved in influence-peddling case
A social worker from Chișinău is being investigated in a criminal influence-peddling case after allegedly demanding and receiving 2,000 lei every month from the social assistance benefit intended for a vulnerable family.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the suspect allegedly took 2,000 lei each month from the social assistance granted to a mother raising her three children alone, one of whom has a disability.
The woman allegedly claimed that she had influence over members of a specialized commission and could ensure the continuation of the social payment to the family.
Several suspected illegal acts were documented during the criminal investigation and special investigative measures. Following searches conducted today, National Anticorruption Center officers seized evidence relevant to fully documenting the activity under investigation.
The social worker is being investigated while at liberty.
