Gender equality and women’s rights discussed at Ministry of Foreign Affairs with UN Women Representative

Strengthening cooperation to promote gender equality, increasing women’s participation in decision-making processes, and preventing violence against women and girls were the main topics discussed by Corina Călugăru, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Dominika Stojanoska, UN Women Representative in the Republic of Moldova.

The officials also discussed women’s economic empowerment and the role of education in ensuring the present and future of every woman and girl, as well as in building an inclusive and resilient society.

Corina Călugăru expressed appreciation for the support provided by UN Women to the Republic of Moldova and highlighted opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the context of developing the new Republic of Moldova–United Nations Cooperation Framework. This process will also capitalize on synergies within the United Nations, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO, taking into account the Republic of Moldova’s European path.

Another topic addressed was the Republic of Moldova’s active involvement in the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), as a member for the 2027–2031 term. According to the parties, this membership provides the country with an opportunity to contribute to promoting gender equality and women’s rights on the multilateral agenda.
