Citizens from over 23 north Moldova settlements to benefit from rehabilitated road meeting European standards

Citizens from over 23 localities from north Moldova will benefit from a rehabilitated road which meets European standards. The construction site of the Soroca–Arionesti–Otaci route today was visited by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, who inspected how the works are being carried out and the level of project’s implementation.

The project is financed with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and includes the reconstruction of the road R14 – R6 – Codrul Nou – Soroca – Unguri – the border with Ukraine, with a total length of 31 km, and the rehabilitation of road R8.1 – R8 – Arionesti – R14, on the Arionesti – Otaci section, with a length of 9.4 km.

By the end of last year, 225 employees were mobilized on the construction sites of the two road sections and approximately 122 pieces of equipment were available.

On site, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea discussed with road workers the stages of the works, including their organization during the cold season and the planning of the next execution phases.

According to data by the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry, on the R14 – R6 – Codrul Nou – Soroca – Unguri – border with Ukraine section, the works have reached a progress of approximately 60 per cent. Recently, earthworks, shoulder arrangement, construction of gutters and culverts for water drainage, paving of sidewalks in localities, and installation of safety barriers on completed sections have been carried out. On the coming period, works on the carriageway and the completion of the remaining sections will continue.

At the same time, on the 9.4 km stretch between Otaci and Arionesti, the works are nearly 70 per cent completed. Interventions on the road structure and drainage system are underway and the next stage includes applying the final wearing course, installing road signs and markings, as well as mounting metal safety barriers.
